Re:
Dear
ARA:
I
would like to personally thank the Arkansas Reading Association and its local councils
for making our Uganda Child Education Sponsorship Program your International
Project. To date, the ARA is sending
eight underprivileged children to school.
We are calling them the ARA
KIDS (list and pictures below). Some councils have committed to ongoing
annual sponsorships at $240 per year, three councils teamed up to do an annual
sponsorship together, others made one year commitments to a child’s education,
and still other councils are just participating by collecting coins to help in
the overall project. Every effort large
and small is very much appreciated by me, the children and their families.
Teachers
and students alike are sponsoring children by gathering their nickels, dimes
and quarters. Here is what Renee’
Edwards, President of the North Arkansas Reading Council wrote:
“Please
find enclosed a check for the amount of $194.66. The North Arkansas
Needless
to say, these sponsorships are worth far more than just an education to our
African children and their families. I
received a note from our Ugandan director last week, he wrote, “The rays of
hope for a bright future keep growing brighter in the lives of all these
children.”
One
boy, Charles Kayira, sponsored by the SEARK Reading Council, was re-united with
his mother because of his school sponsorship.
Previously, Charles was living with his grandfather in the village
because his mother could not afford to care for him or send him to school. Both Charles and his mother are very happy to
be back together.
To
the Arkansas Reading Association and to every participating council I woud like
to say in our children’s Lugandan tongue, “Webele Nyo Nyo Nyo!!!”
Thank
you very, very, very much!!!
Gratefully
Yours,
