The Arkansas Reading
Association, an affiliate of the International Reading Association, is a
professional organization of individuals, institutions and councils
dedicated to promoting reading and developing literacy.
Approximately 1500 members are involved in 26
local reading councils
throughout the state where professional development is provided at the
local level. Each council
also sponsors literacy activities in their communities.
In addition, ARA sponsors a state reading conference in
November of each year. Nationally
recognized speakers and small group session leaders provide excellent
professional development for all educators.
Membership is open to all educators, parents, community
leaders and anyone interested in promoting literacy.
