ARA Honoree Attends IRA |
I had a great time at the IRA conference in Chicago. . .
To quote Lilly, "Wow! That's just about all I can say. Wow!" The IRA conference in Chicago was just amazing. My favorite part was getting to have lunch with Kevin Henkes and about 400 other educators. His new book My Garden is another great work of his imagination.
The sessions were wonderful and I brought back a lot of good ideas for my school. My only advice to next year's Local Council Honoree winner would be to take a strong man with you to carry all the bags of fantastic books and materials you get from the exhibit hall. Thanks so much, ARA!

Coordinator's Corner
I wish all of you could have been in Chicago with us last month. There is nothing like being with other people who share your passion to fire up your spirit and encourage you to tackle those literacy challenges! The ARA breakfast was a wonderful way for Arkansas educators to connect in Chicago. Thank you again, Pearson, for sponsoring this event.
Local council leaders should be watching for their Summer Leadership Workshop information in the mail. ARA pays for four members from each council to attend this important meeting.
The end of the 2009-2010 school year is approaching. I hope you have had a successful year and have had an opportunity to share some good books with students.
Have a peaceful end of the year!
