The International Reading Association's Advocacy Award annually recognizes state and provincial councils that demonstrate how they are working to affect educational policy and legislation through effective advocacy at the local, state/provincial, and/or national levels.
Glenda Nugent, Legislative Chair, has completed and submitted the application for this award. Thank you, Glenda and good luck, ARA!

In an effort to recruit new members, ARA is sponsoring a luncheon hosted by Michael Shoulders. The first 75 preservice teachers who registered for the conference were accepted, and the luncheon is now closed.

Glenda Nugent, ARA's Legislative Chair, would like to remind everyone to attend the "Taking Stock in Educatonal Issues" box lunch, where you can meet with several state legislators.
Scheduled to participate are:
Sentator Joyce Elliott (Senate Education Committee Member)
Rep. David Rainey (Representative, District 11)
Rep. Bill Abernathy (Chair of House Education Committee)
Rep. Robert Moore (Joint Budget Committee Member)

| Two ARA Members Are Teacher of the Year Finalists |
Congratulations to Lenora Bullington, a member of On the Border Reading Council, and Andrea White, of White River Reading Council, who are finalists for the Arkansas Teacher of the Year award.
They will be recognized November 6th at the state's first Arkansas Teacher of the Year Gala, where the 2010 winner and three runners-up will be announced. Good luck, Lenora and Andrea! |

A few exhibit hall booths are still available. Who can exhibit? Vendors of educational supplies, books, or craft items of interest to teachers! Even educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, banks or insurance companies, etc., are all welcome!"
